Real Reviews From Real People
I purchased this TV 2 months ago (9/2008) from a local store. This TV is hands down the best TV on the market! 5 stars. I haven't found a single thing that I don't like about it. -- John, San Antonio TX
The Pro-111FD Kuro ('black') certainly lives up to its name. It produces jaw-dropping, deep blacks that make its true-to-life colors look all the more beautiful and stunning. -- GErianne, Watertown, CT
I've spent a little over a week with the TV and have to say that it really lives up to all the lofty praise it has received over the past year. The blacks, in a single word, are stunning and the colors are equally impressive. -- Michael D. Perlo, New York, New York
David Katzmaier in CNET Reviews says the only reason it wasn't included in the Editor's Choice is it's “stratospheric price”. The good news is the price has since gone down as yo can see in one of the reviews above.

What's So Great About The Elite Kuro
The Elite plasma TVs from Pioneer were created for the true-blue home theater fans who can afford it. According to CNET, this plasma TV has the best contrast level among all the TVs that they have reviewed. It also has the most true to life colors.
The all black finish directs all attention to the picture. The detachable speakers are mounted on the sides.
It performs quite well out of the box. It has seven picture modes and "Pure" is probably the mode you'll like to use. It's just what it says it is, pure and true.
And check this out, it has an ambient light censor that feeds room lighting information to the TV set. It then adjusts the picture basing on this info.
You can find a more thorough discussion of the technical specs from CNET.
