Before deciding to buy a Total Gym, be sure that you know how it can help you. If you want to bulk up and build big muscles, then you're better off using weight training. The Total Gym is not for building big muscles. I mean look at Chuck Norris, the man himself. He's not really bulky but his muscles are toned.

If you want to lose weight and tone your body, then the Total Gym is the right exercise equipment for you. All you need is about 20 minutes of exercise three times a week. Consistency is key. You'll have to work out. The Total Gym is a great exercise equipment but YOU HAVE TO USE IT!

Pros

1. The Total Gym comes fully assembled. You only have to do some minor tweaks to match it to your fitness level and your goals.

2. While it doesn't exactly “replace an entire gym”, you can do several different exercises with the Total Gym to target different parts of the body.

3. It doesn't take a lot of time to work out. Like I mentioned above, 20 minutes 3 times a week is all it takes. With this small investment in time and with a little effort to be consistent, you can achive a stronger and thinner body.

4. Value for your money. If you buy the basic Total Gym, it will only set you back less than two hundred bucks. For most people, the basic package is enough. Unless you're really tall or really big, stick with the basic Total Gym.

Cons

1. It's kinda bulky compared to other popular exercise equipment but this is really no biggie. Its dimensions: 88 x 44 x 16.12 inches. That's about the size of a bench.

2. The cloth covering of the push-up bar comes off pretty easily. This doesn't really affect usability of the Total Gym though.

Here's some facts that help you make a smart decision. All the Total Gyms work the same way. The higher end models just add a few extras. These extras include heavy duty make, higher resistance levels, or more space for taller individuals. If you're an average user, the basic models should be enough to do the job. And by basic, I mean nothing more than $500.

If you want to lose weight and tone your muscles, the Total Gym is for you. Don't use the Total Gym if you want to increase your muscle size. The basic package will do the job for most folks. Get the basic package unless your very tall or very big.

The total gym works. Just do your part and use it. Twenty minutes, 3 times a week is all it takes to stay fit, lose weight and gain strength. You can expect results in as short as 10 weeks.
